Guess where Raghunath Medge and Sopan Mare, the dabbawallas from Mumbai, stayed in London over the weekend when they went there to attend the wedding of their 'friend' HRH Prince Charles to Camilla Parker-Bowles? At 51 Buckingham Gate, the luxury townhouse hotel of the Taj Hotels, Resorts and Palaces in London. The dabbawallas met the newly-weds at the reception at Windsor Castle on Saturday and presented Camilla with a pearl mangalsutra and wished the couple a happy life. They were also amazed to see that the royal wedding was a very sober affair and unlike Indian weddings did not have any loud music and dancing. The dabbawallas were given a home from home welcome by Taj Hotels at 51 Buckingham Gate, which is just a stone's throw from the royal residence. During their stay, their needs were taken care of by butlers, all of whom had been trained by the Ivor Spencer butler school, which has also provided butlers for members of British royalty over the years.

However, the best was to come when the dabbaallas told Prince Charles that they were leaving on Sunday. The Prince replied, "Stay back for a day, take a look around London, what's the hurry?"  So, Medge and Mare are staying back in London today and will be going on a tour of the city and also visiting some management schools which have invited them over as honorary guests. And if you dabba has been late for lunch today, you know whom to blame!
