The neighbouring areas of National Capital that fall under western Uttar Pradesh have turned into a haven for Bangladeshi illegal migrants. The UP police and the local intelligence unit (LIU) officials have detected a hub that has 50,000 illegal Bangladeshi migrants living in different residential colonies adjacent to Delhi.

In the year 2005 LIU officilas had arrested more than 700 Bangladeshi migrants who are currently facing trial in different courts of this district. On Sunday the UP police detected a hub of Bangladeshi migrants in strategically located Khurja town of Bulandshahr.

The police arrested 64 illegal Bangladeshi migrants from Khurja who had been living there for over a decade. Seven Bangladeshi were nabbed along with their fourty-eight children on Sunday in the raids conducted by the UP police and various other investigating agencies.

The residential localities of Ghaziabad like Shaheednagar, Jawahar Park, Rajiv Colony, Pasaunda, Vikram Enclave, Maharajpur, Arthlapeer, Nasbandi colony, Khassi colony, Shalimar colony and Kadkad model are the hub of these migrants. They used to sneak into colonies and find safe shelter in the Muslim predominated areas, confirmed DSP Ch. Omvir Singh, the circle officer of LIU Ghaziabad.

Khurja town in Western Uttar Pradesh has been identified as their latest hide out centre. The town is located very close to the Delhi-Kolkata railway track and is an hour away from the national Capital.

Among those arrested are 64 Bangladeshis including the 7 women and 48 children. They are also found involved in crimes. Several Bangladeshis have been booked for committing heinous crimes even in the past. The police conducted raids to nab some criminal living among them but it turned out to be difficult for the police because they slipped into Delhi and returned to Ghaziabad whenever they chose, said Vijay Mohan, the City president of Bharatiya Janta Party.

"At present there are about 50000 Bangladeshi migrants here in this district. We are helpless since they find shelter in Muslim predominated areas. There are weaknesses in our system and at some places there is a nexus to facilitate them to sneak in to our country. In spite of our best efforts, we failed to put an effective checkmate of their illegal immigration," said a senior intelligence official.
