Introduction: Lawyer friends of the doctors
who are helping them with legal formalities are being unduly harassed, allege
doctors.
After being beaten by police at Raj Bhavan,
medicos have come forward to support their lawyer friends who were fighting
their legal battle and were arrested. Lawyers Girish Talwar and Vijay Nair
were called in at the DCP zone II office for recording their statement.
"Girish tried hard to bail the medical
students out after they were arrested. The police is now targeting lawyers
by harassing these two legal supporters," said one of the doctors.
Doctors say that despite the inhuman and cruel
treatment meted out unto them by the police last week, they will not harbour
any grudge against cops who come to them for treatment since they are in a
noble profession. Said Dr Akhil Goyal, "At least, on grounds of humanity
some police officer should take responsibility for the inhuman behaviour and
apologise."
Goyal adds, "We are not against reservation.
It is not a problem for us but it will prove to be a big problem for candidates
availing the reservation quota."
Another doctor Vikrant Bhosale said, "Government
must first consult those who get affected by reservation. Being in cabinet
doesn't authorise anyone to take isolated decisions."
Monali Patil, another doctor, said, "In
a country like our where the President loves children and has profound respect
for the country, such things can happen."
