Terming as 'highly irresponsible' Aamir Khan's
attitude on the Narmada issue, cinestar-turned-BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha
on Friday demanded apology for "hurting" the sentiments of the people
of Gujarat.
Sinha also criticized Prime Minister Manmohan
Singh for coming out in support of the actor.
"Apologising will not belittle you,"
Sinha said, adding that Khan should shed his 'stubborn attitude' and open
a dialogue with the people of Gujarat.
Khan had on Thursday said that he would not
go back on his statement demanding rehabilitation of the people affected by
the Sardar Sarovar Dam.
Sinha said Khan's 'stubborn attitude' had
resulted in his latest movie "Fanaa" not being released in Gujarat
and was 'harming' the interest of film-maker Yash Chopra and other cast members.
He dismissed as "filmi dialogue"
Khan's statement that he was fighting for the cause of the poor losing their
land and homes to the dam.
"If you justify Aamir's action on the
ground of freedom of speech and expression, there is also a thing called freedom
of rejection. The people of Gujarat are doing that by deciding not to see
Fanaa," Sinha said.
Aamir, he said, should stop "acting like
a part-time activist and become a fulltime one like Shabana Azmi if was interested."
He also said, "I wish the PM should have
done some home work before justifying Aamir's stand."
He questioned the Prime Minister's "silence"
on banning Hollywood movie 'The Da Vinci Code' in Congress-ruled Punjab and
Nagaland.
