After winning 175 seats in the Assembly elections,
the CPI-M is going whole hog to establish its rule on Left Front partners
again.
To start with, CPI-M cadres have allegedly
unleashed a "goondraj" in several villages under Mysora gram panchayat
in Panskura, Midnapore East, which falls under the Nandapur Assembly seat
over the past two days. They looted and ransacked several houses and shops
belonging to CPI activists at Paralakshya, Gurtola, Mysora, Kishorepur, Shyampur,
Chawokgopal, Shyamsundar patna,, Shyamballapvpur and Sahalajpur. Around 100
CPI activists were injured, of whom the condition of Mr Gopinath Dhara, upa-prodhan
of Mysora, Mr Pradip Bera, Mr Taher Ali, Mr M Nrayan Patra, Mr Srikanta Mandal
and Mr Aison Ali is said to be critical. They are being treated in different
hospitals. Two two-wheelers and several bi-cycles were set ablaze.
The CPI-M mob was led by Mr Jamshed Ali, the
party's kramadakshya and Mr Kishore Pande, ex-pradhan of Mysora, CPI leaders
alleged.
Feeling insecure because of the lenient attitude
of the police, people belonging to other parties are fleeing their homes for
safety. They have targeted Mr Madan Maity, Mr Sudhangshu Adak, ex-karmadakshya
and Mr Ershad Ali, former LCS and district committee member of the CPI-M for
allegedly instigating the villagers to for the Trinamul. They incurred CPI-M's
ire as a few hundred followers of Mr Ali, who was earlier expelled from the
CPI-M on alleged charges of anti-party activities, shifted their allegiance
to CPI.
The CPI's Panskura local committee secretary,
Mr Amal Dey, said that the CPI-M have issued a whip that the villagers join
the CPI-M ranks. Today, however, the focus of their wrath shifted to Bijaharpur
and other villages where Mr Chittadas Tahakur of the CPI was reelected. CPI-M
activists are trying to establish their supremacy here, Mr Thakur alleged.
Sixteen houses belonging to Adivasi people, built under the Indira Abash Yojana,
were looted and ransacked by the CPI-M hoodlums. One shop was set on fire
and two ransacked in the presence of the police.
Protesting against partisan role of the police
about 400 CPI activists have been staging a dharna outside the Panskura police
station since last evening. Their dharna would continue till all 37 accused,
named in the FIR be arrested, he threatened.
