Considerable support seems to be building
up for Majlis-e-Ittehadul-Muslimeen in the Old City of Hyderabad.
"Every Muslim hates Taslima. She is like
Salman Rushdie. What MIM has done is correct," said Azam Khan (name changed),
a middle-class professional.
Two Urdu newspapers in Hyderabad, after egging
on MIM for two days, kept silent. According to observers, the two papers -
otherwise opposed to MIM - saw the political advantage accruing to the party
out of the controversy, and chose to keep quiet.

"The secular crowd is unable to understand
the depth of feelings among Muslims," said Bashir Ahmed (name changed),
an executive.
Meanwhile, the police said they were collecting
evidence to prosecute Owaisi. The police are also likely to slap a case against
a leader of Majlis Bachao Tahrik - an MIM splinter group - for issuing threats.
"We're collecting evidence and unedited
video footage of the utterances of Akbar Owaisi," Punjagutta ACP L K
Shinde told TOI.
The evidence would be produced before a local
court, which would summon the legislator, Shinde said. Based on the MLA's
reply to the summons, the court may issue further orders.
