Abu Hamza pulled the trigger at IISc: Police

Author: TNN
Publication: The Times of India
Date: February 11, 2008

Two years after the IISc terror strike, the Karnataka police claim to have got the name of the shooter, Abu Hamza, a prime LeT operative. DGP K R Srinivasan announced this after Sabauddin, one of the six ultras held in UP on Sunday, confessed to this.

Although Hamza's name used to surface with each terror-related arrest in the South, DGP Ajai Kumar Singh said they now have enough basis to assume Hamza pulled the trigger at IISc on December 28. A man in a camouflage jacket fired indiscriminately at scientists coming out of a hall, killing M C Puri, a retired professor of IIT, Delhi. Till date, the city police have arrested eight in this connection and had also come out with Shahid Bilal's name. However, now they say Bilal is dead.

According to UP police reports, Sabauddin was in Bangalore during the IISc attack, and he helped Hamza in hatching the plot. It's believed that Sabauddin had stayed for long in Bangalore and was studying in a college here during 2005. He left the city after the attack.
