Security forces on Monday surrounded a mosque
in Jammu & Kashmir, where two separatist militants are holed up, a senior
police official said.
Troops of 57 Rashtriya Rifles, paramilitary
Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Special Operations Group (SOG) of
the State police surrounded the mosque in Papchan village, 56 km from here,
in Bandipore district.
"Militants opened indiscriminate fire
at the security forces. The fire was returned and the firing continued till
late (Monday) afternoon," the officer said.
Police sources said the security forces fired
tear smoke shells inside the mosque to eject the militants.
"Efforts are on to nab the militants.
However, utmost restrain is being exercised by police and security forces
to maintain sanctity of the mosque," a police spokesman said.
