Protesting the killing of the Hindi-speaking
settlers in Assam, BJP has today alleged that it was part of a larger conspiracy
to facilitate settlement of illegal Bangladeshi migrants. The Lok Sabha witnessed
pandemonium for a few minutes during the Zero Hour, when raising the issue
of recent incidents of violence in Assam, BJP MP Khiren Rijiju charged the
State Government of failure in tackling the internal security situation in
the State. He was referring to the recent incident of killing of four Hindi-speaking
settlers and the incidents of bomb blasts taking place at regular intervals.
Amidst the hue and cry, Rijiju said the killings
were a part of the greater design by Bangladesh to take over Assam by means
of demographic invasion. He said, "Since there has been a series of killings
in Assam, I wonder if there is a government in Assam or not."
"Extremist groups in Assam are being
used by Bangladesh and Pakistan's ISI to take over the State," Rijiju
added.
The recent incidents of violence in Assam
has rocked both the Houses of Parliament, with the Opposition AGP, BJP and
the lone Bodo Rajya Sabha MP UG Brahma raising the issue, demanding Central
intervention.
A delegation of the North East MPs is planning
to call on Union Home Minister, Shivraj Patil tomorrow afternoon to draw his
attention to the unabated violence in the State, said Dr Arun Kumar Sarma.
Meanwhile, the Centre has ruled out the possibility
of internationally active terrorist organisations including fundamentalist
groups planning to set up operational base in the north-eastern States. However,
there are reports that some insurgent groups from the region have links with
Pakistan's ISI and certain other fundamentalist organisations from neighbouring
countries, said Minister of State for Home Affairs Radhika V Selvi.
The groups which have links with militant
outfits includes HUJI Bangladesh, which in turn, is reported to have links
with Pakistan-based terrorist groups and ISI.
The Centre was also sceptical about reports
of AANLA and Birsa Commando Force having joined hands with the Maoists. The
Government, however, was keeping a close watch on the situation, said Minister
of State for Home Affairs, Sriprakash Jaiswal.
Meanwhile, in reply to a separate question,
the Minister said that the Border Security Force (BSF), in a joint operations
with Assam Police, has seized three AK-47 rifles, three automatic rifles,
two other rifles and a sten-gun, one grenade launcher, hand grenade, IEDs
and a sizeable ammunition from the jungles of Karbi Anglong in January.
None of the groups operating in the two hill
districts has laid down arms, though the Government has a ceasefire pact with
UPDS. However, violence in Karbi Anglong is committed by KLNLF, said Selvi
in reply to a question.
