The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)
on Saturday (May 7) claimed that DMK Chief Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi
is part of the bigger conspiracy of the 2G spectrum allocation scam. The CBI
argued that Kanimozhi was "active brain" behind Kalaignar TV which
received Rs 200 crore bribe from Dynamix group. The CBI made these arguments
today in a special court which is hearing the 2G spectrum scam, as it the
hearing for Kanimozhi's bail plea began.
The CBI also told the court that Shahid Balwa,
whose company was beneficiary in 2G scam, paid Rs 200 crore to Kalaignar TV.
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's daughter had
applied for bail via her high-profile lawyer, Ram Jethmalani, on Friday. If
denied bail, she will go to jail.
"Let us see what happens in court,"
the DMK Rajya Sabha MP said as she arrived for the hearing this morning.
According to the CBI's argument in court today,
money was transferred to Kalaignar TV without proper documentation, which
raises suspicion on Kanimozhi. The DMK leader is said to have participated
in day to day affairs of Kalaignar TV. The CBI argued that Kani was the controlling
hand behind the channel and also added that she was in constant interaction
with former Telecom Minister A Raja.
"Controlling mind of Kalaignar TV is Sharad Kumar but the lady (Kanimozhi)
"controls" everything from behind," CBI told court.
Kanimozhi has been accused by the CBI of accepting
a bribe along with her party man, A Raja, who was Telecom Minister and is
now in jail for allegedly designing India's biggest scam birthed during the
allocation of spectrum and licenses in 2008.
Balwa is said to have facilitated the payment
of Rs 200 crore into the account of Kalaignar TV. In the chargesheet, the
CBI had traced the money trail of Rs 200 crore, which was alleged to be part
of the bribe to Kalaignar TV in grant of UAS licence to Swan Telecom.
The CBI said the money was transferred into
the account of Kalaignar TV following a circuitous route, and payments were
made in small amounts. The money was first transferred to Kusegaon Fruits
and Vegetables from where it was transferred to Cineyug and then to Kalaignar.
