Ferrying of rice from FCI godown at Dimapur
to Imphal has been suspended following NSCN(K)'s Rs. 45 lakhs demand. A report
received by The Pioneer said that NSCN (K) cadres came to the FCI godown in
Dimapur and called for a stop to loading of rice for Imphal until their demand
is fulfilled.
Around 60 trucks were to load rice at that
time, the report said adding that loading has since been suspended. The trucks
have started searching for other items to be transported to Imphal, the report
said. The disturbance given to transportation of FCI items to Imphal by UGs
in Dimapur is not the first of its kind.
On the other hand, cadres of different UG
outfits, particularly NSCN(IM), NSCN(K) and NNC are allegedly extorting money
from trucks travelling on the Imphal-Jiribam section of NH 53. They are collecting
Rs 200 to Rs 500 per truck as per the report. However, they have not been
able to extort from the trucks moving with security escorts.
