Reacting to reports of BJP leaders Faggan
Singh Kulaste and Mahavir Singh Bhagora's arrest in the cash-for-votes scam,
BJP leader Balbir Punj slammed the Delhi Police saying that the whistleblowers
have been arrested.
"I don't have any faith in Delhi police
and this government. Delhi police took three years, they only worked when
court forced them. Even blind man will know that government is entrapping
the whistleblowers," said Punj, speaking to CNN-IBN.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy refused
to comment on the arrest of the party leaders. "I cannot comment on legal
issues but the issue is who were the beneficiaries of cash-for-votes scam.
The UPA Government was saved. Their role too should be probed," he said.
Indicating the UPA Government was the real
beneficiary of the cash-for-votes scam, Rudy further said, "Amar Singh
should now come out and tell who the real beneficiaries are."
Commenting on the arrest of Amar Singh, CPI
leader Gurudas Dasgupta said, "Right man in the right place. Law should
be such...not discriminating".
Echoing the BJP's demand, Dasgupta also said,
"The real beneficiary of the cash-for-votes scam was the Government.
The Prime Minister should come clean on who was Amar Singh fronting."
Rajya Sabha MP and former Samajwadi Party
leader Amar Singh has been sent to 13-day judicial custody in the cash-for-votes
scam. Amar Singh and two other accused - Faggan Singh Kulaste and Mahavir
Singh Bhagora - will remain in jail till September 19.
The Tees Hazari court of Special Judge Sangita
Dhingra Sehgal rejected Amar Singh's plea of ill-health and his interim bail
application. While Bharatiya Janata Party leaders Faggan Singh Kulaste and
Mahavir Singh Bhagora are former MPs.
