Hundreds of Sikhs protested outside the UN
headquarters here during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's address to the world
body, demanding removal of Minister for Urban Development Kamal Nath for his
alleged role in the anti-Sikh riots of 1984.
Advocacy group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), that
led the protest, said a similar rally will also be held on November 2 in France
where the Prime Minister will be attending the G-20 Summit.
"Singh's government has failed to prosecute
the perpetrators (of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots) and instead is rewarding the
killers of Sikhs with Cabinet positions," SFJ legal adviser Gurpatwant
Pannun alleged in a statement.
The protest rally yesterday was organised
by SFJ along with the support of management committees of tri-state area gurudwaras.
The Sikh organisations have pledged to raise
at international level the issue of "denial of justice" to the victims
of 1984 riots, Pannun said.
