Life surged into the sleepy Patel Samaaj Wadi in Piplag village near Nadiad on Saturday as hundreds of nonresident Gujaratis (NRGs) turned up with a single mission in mind — to help set up a world-class hospital in Changa for the poor. The organizers, Shri Charotar Moti Sattavis Leuva Patidar Samaj (CMSLPS), saw Rs 25 crore being donated between 10 am and 3 pm as NRGs giving Rs 7 crore was given on the spot.
All this will go towards setting a Rs 250 crore, 400-bed multi-specialty non-profit hospital. CMSLPS had collected Rs 83 lakh for the main campus of the hospital three days before the event. “Our total target is Rs 80 crore for the first phase,” said the president of CMSLPS, Nagin Patel. “The community wants to reach out,” said Virendra Patel, a hotelier from the US and among the top donors.
