A clash within a village community over removal of encroachment on village grazing land left one dead and 13 injured at Votholi in Washim district on Saturday.
The village community traditionally removes such encroachments on the second day of Pola festival every year. When villagers went to remove the alleged encroachment by Rashid Khan Hamid Khan, he and his accomplices opened fire and used sharp weapons to attack the villagers, leaving Vasanta Bhikaji Tale ( 31) dead and 13 injured.
One of the injured, Namdeo Uttam Wankhede (23) is critical, police sources said. The police have arrested Khan and have booked him and over 25 others under various offences, including murder and rioting. The incident created tension in Manora tahsil, with shops and establishments remaining closed.
