Expressing his concern over the plight of the indigenous people of Assam, BJP MP Chandan Mitra said if concrete steps are not taken at once, the State will soon be under the rule of a party led by the intruders.

 “The Assamese are aggrieved and scared. It is unfortunate that the people have become a minority in their own land. If the matter is not resolved now, migrants will manage to form the government in the State,” he said.

 Criticising the previous governments of the State for their carelessness and inability to curb the escalating number of Bangladeshis, Mitra said the present Opposition party led by Badruddin Ajmal in Assam Assembly will be in power.

 “The Opposition party in the State Assembly, All India United Democratic Front led by Badruddin Ajmal, which only talks about a particular community, will manage to form the government in Assam. It will be no surprise if the descendants of Ajmal become the Chief Minister of Assam,” the BJP leader added.

 Mitra was speaking during a seminar-cum-open session on ‘Assam Trouble-Cause and Solution’ organised a Delhi-based NGO — Indraprastha Sanjeevni — in the Capital on Thursday. Also present were former DGP of Punjab KPS Gill, former Governor of Assam Lieutenant General (retd) Ajai Singh, former president of Assam Association Ranjit Baruah with several other representatives of organisations of Assam.

 Mitra further said the present state is due to the planned conspiracy and Bangladeshi intruders were invited as part of the conspiracy, which should not be taken lightly.

 “Swift increase in population of Muslims in districts of West Bengal and Assam is a serious matter. In Assam, there were 12 districts having large population of Muslims and now the community dominates 27 districts. This population is not of indigenous Muslims, they are Bangladeshi intruders,” he said, adding that these unwanted foreign migrants should be indentified and deported to Bangladesh after deleting their names from the voters’ list.

 Speaking at the seminar, Gill also slammed the Centre and the State Government of Assam saying that ethnic violence there is a well-calculated move.

 He said the Centre was fully aware of the condition of the Assamese and did not take any action to stop the intrusion. “Borders were not sealed. Thousands came and encroached upon the land owned by the natives of Assam,” he said.
