From an inflow of Rs 17,208 crore from 16 major organisations, 14 were Christian NGOs

A whopping sum of Rs 17,208 crore was donated by several organisations to Non-Governmental Organisations in India. A major share of this amount was donated by 14 Christian organisations based out of the US, a Home ministry report states.

The Home ministry report states that during the years 2015-16, there was an inflow of Rs 17,208 crore from 16 major organisations. Out of the 16 organisations, 14 were Christian NGOs, the report also states. This is the highest inflow of money in the past five years. The years 2013-14 saw an inflow of Rs 13,092 crore while during the years 2011-12 it was Rs 10,334 crore.

The large flow of funds from Christian organisations has put several NGOs indulging in religious conversions on the watch list. Last year a Christian NGO, Compassion International was put under the scanner after it was found that it was funding organsiations in India indulging in religious conversions. It was found that this organisation alone had donated Rs 292 crore.

The other major Christian organisations that donated money to NGOs in India are World Vision, Give Two Asia and Gospel for Asia. While World Vision donated Rs 300 crore, Give Two Asia and Gospel for Asia funded NGOs amounts of Rs 105 crore and Rs 830 crore respectively.
