CLAIM

Congress leader and Wayanad MP today posted a video on his official Twitter handle accusing PM Narendra Modi of lying to India.

Gandhi said that those making these claims were Ladakhis.

The video received over 13k retweets and 34k likes at the time of filing this report.

TRUTH

At least five people in the video that Gandhi tried to pass off as ordinary Ladakhis had either links to Congress or were its functionaries.
VERIFICATION AND METHODOLOGY

Since the video carried everyone’s name who gave away a byte, we used those as keywords on Google search engine and found the following results.

Dorjay Gyalston

He is working president of District Youth Congress’ Leh unit. In a post by Facebook group District Congress Leh, we found him addressed as one.

Dr Ishey Namgyal
In an article dated November 2, 2018 frm Reach Ladakh, Bulletin we found that Congress appointed Dr. Ishey Namgyal as the President of Ladakh municipal committee.

Namgyal Durbuk

Journalist Barkha Dutt, in a video-tweet report on Ladakh referred to him as an ex Congress Councillor

Sachin Merupa
As per his Twitter bio, he is NSUI (Congress’ student wing) general secretary from Himachal Pradesh.

Tundup Nubu
As per bio on his Facebook profile, he is General Secretary at Indian Youth Congress UT Ladakh

VERDICT
Times Fact Check has found that at least five men featuring in a video posted by Rahul Gandhi to attack PM Modi over India-China faceoff at LAC, were Congress functionaries, and not ordinary Ladakhis. Gandhi used that video to insinuate that China had intruded and taken away India’s land and Modi is lying to countrymen about it.
